Residential Volunteer - Loughborough (Female)

Baca is seeking a compassionate and proactive female Residential Volunteer to join our team. The successful volunteer will be a great role model for semi-independent unaccompanied asylum seeking girls aged 16 to 18.  The Residential Volunteer will seek to establish a safe, fun, caring and interdependent home with the girls in the house. They will be very approachable, supportive, keen to build relationships and be a strong team player. The successful applicant will have a personal style that is in line with Baca’s vision and values.

The role requires the individual to live in one of our properties and be a ‘big sister’ to the young people. Some of the benefits for the Residential Volunteer includes free rent, council tax, utilities and WiFi.

Our volunteers make a fantastic contribution to the work that we do and are highly valued. You will be supported in your role through an induction, training and ongoing support from our Volunteer Coordinator.

The role is appropriate for someone undertaking study or who has another job. An enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check will be required.

Residential Cover Volunteer

All Baca properties have Residential Volunteers who live in our houses alongside the young people we support.  To allow these Residential Volunteers the opportunity to have a break from this role and to have time away from the houses, Baca needs a bank of relief cover volunteers who we can call on to stay in the houses for one or several nights, depending on need and your availability. This role serves a vital function in supporting our holistic care of our young people. It provides an opportunity to build healthy friendships with young people from various different cultures, languages and backgrounds. Full training and induction is given and a full DBS check will be completed.

Reading Support Assistant

At Baca, we support our young people to achieve an increase in personal safety, social engagement and engagement with education. We also support them to improve their physical and emotional wellbeing. The Volunteer Team roles are designed to help provide extra support regarding the development of our young people, who are 16-18-year-old unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees. The Reading Support we provide through our Volunteer Team, is an essential part of the young people’s learning and development with their education. We have seen a significant difference in some young people’s confidence with their reading through this programme and it has therefore become one of our core activities.

Full training and induction is given and a full DBS check will be completed.

Sport Volunteer

Mentor

Voluntary

The mentoring scheme is designed to create a safe relationship between a refugee young person who is about to move on from Baca and an adult in the local community. This will be for a fixed amount of time (e.g. 1 year) to provide a safety net, advice, guidance and a reassuring presence for the young person as they are transition into adulthood completely. The mentoring relationship would begin whilst the young person is still in our care, to ensure both Mentors and the young people are supported and safeguarded as the mentoring relationship is built.

Skills, personality, passion, interests and availability will be considered to best match mentors with a young person of similar interests.

Full training and induction is given and a full DBS check will be completed.
